  1. Place the compass on the map, with it's edge along the desired line of travel (A is your position and B is where you want to go)
  2. Turn the dial until the North-South lines on the transparent bottom of the compass are parallel with the north lines of the map. (If you want you can add your magnetic variation now)
  3. Now pick up the compass and turn your body until the red end of the needle points to North on the compass dial
  4. The arrow on the base of the compass now points precisely to your destination. Choose a landmark in this direction and walk towards it without looking at the compass.
  5. Choose a new landmark and repeat the procedure until you reach your destinations.

REMEMBER to keep your compass away from magnetic fields (e.g. pylons and iron objects) as they can distort you readings
